Trekking Permit Information – Nepal

Welcome to Nepal. The Government of Nepal requires trekkers to obtain trekking permits to enter mountain and trekking regions. Trekkers may travel as Free Individual Trekkers (FIT) or in groups, depending on the area.

 

Some trekking regions are designated as Restricted Areas and are strictly regulated by the Government of Nepal. In these areas, FIT trekking is not allowed. Trekkers must travel in an organized group, accompanied by a licensed guide, and obtain a special permit from the Department of Immigration through an authorized trekking agency.

 

Trekking is permitted only on the routes and within the areas specified in the permit. Trekking outside the approved route is considered a violation of Nepalese law.

 

All trekkers must always carry their trekking permit and present it to immigration officials or police upon request. Compliance with these regulations ensures safety, legal travel, and responsible trekking in Nepal.
